When it comes to natural stone, this is including marble, it needs to be cleaned regularly and protected against staining and erosion. Though if you purchased a new home that someone else neglected the marble floors, a good deep cleaning and polishing can restore them back to the shiny glory.
There are some tools that you will need to get those marble floors shining again.
- Soft-bristled broom or clean untreated dust mop
- Baking soda
- Dishwashing liquid
- Stone cleaner
- Bucket
- Soft, microfiber cloth, non-abrasive sponge, or a soft-bristled scrub brush
- Measuring cup
- Plastic wrap
- Masking tape
- Diatomaceous Earth, plaster, powdered white chalk or talc
- Stone sealant
Make sure that you never use ammonia or any other acidic cleaners on your marble tile flooring. These can end up causing damage such as etching that take extra steps to removing.
What you will need to do first is to get the soft-bristled broom or clean untreated dust mop and clean up all dirt, dust, and debris that is on the tile flooring.
You will then need to mix 3 tablespoons baking soda along with a generous squirt of your choice of dish soap into a quart of warm water. If you chose to use stone cleaner, you will replace the dish soap with that.
You will then fill the bucket with plain, clean water.
What you will do next is to take either the soft, microfiber cloth, non-abrasive sponge, or soft-bristled scrub brush and dip it into the soapy water and start scrubbing the floor. You will need to frequently rinse the sponge, brush, or cloth in the plain water in the bucket. Make sure to empty it and refill it with water as it becomes dirty.
Now, take the measuring cup and measure out 1 cup of the diatomaceous earth, plaster, powdered white chalk, or talc. You will need to add water until it becomes a paste like substance similar to frosting for a cake.
On all stained areas, wet them down with some distilled water. You will then spread this paste in a thick layer over the stains. Once all the stains are covered, you will cover each spot with the plastic wrap and tape it all the way around the edges with the masking tape. Leave the paste to dry completely, which can take 24 to 48 hours.
Once it has completely dried, remove the plastic wrap. Then wipe away the dried paste with a wet sponge or cloth.
From there you will need to apply the stone sealant, but only if it needs to be resealed. Make sure to follow the directions located on the back of the bottle.
